How To Properly Maintain A Headstone In The Cemetery

Losing someone who was related to you or even just genuinely close with you is such a difficult thing to go through. Although you are deeply hurting, picking out the perfect headstone for your loved one may help to ease some of that pain just a bit. When selecting a headstone, it is best to look at some of the different materials used to make them. You want to invest in one that will continue to look beautiful throughout the years, especially since it will be outside during all kinds of weather.

Once the headstone gets placed over the grave, you will need to take proper care of it to keep it from getting dirty. After all, the dirt from the ground may end up on top of the headstone during storms and on windy days. If it is made using marble or even granite materials, you will not have to do too much to keep it clean. In fact, you can fill a bottle up halfway with bleach and halfway with water as a cleansing solution.

After putting the bleach and water together in the bottle, make sure to shake well. You can then spray or squeeze out the liquid directly on top of the headstone, giving it a few minutes to soak into it before you wipe the solution off with a soft cloth. When you complete this simple cleaning process, you will see the huge difference it makes.

You will need to take a different approach if your loved one has a bronze headstone. Instead of using bleach, you should mix water with a gentle soap to create yet another effective cleansing solution. You can squeeze the solution over the headstone and then carefully wipe it down using a brush. You may notice a lot of soap bubbles on top of it, but you can simply wash them away by using a bit more of the water you bring with you to the cemetery.

Aside from using your own do-it-yourself cleansers, you can always buy products available specifically for cleaning certain types of headstones. These products are quite affordable and can last a long time, so you can properly maintain the headstone and keep it clear of dirt, grass and debris. Even though a clean headstone will not replace your loved one, it will likely make you feel a lot better knowing you can visit the person you miss so much while viewing such a clean and beautiful memorial piece.
